James Bidwell, Consultant

James Bidwell is a Specialist Lower Limb Surgeon, with strong areas of interest in soft tissue knee reconstruction, both primary and revision knee arthroplasty, primary hip arthroplasty and general orthopaedics. He has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Aberdeen since 2001 having completed his training in London and Glasgow, with further specialist fellowship training in Edinburgh. In 2000, he also undertook a travelling fellowship in North America.

As the areas of orthopaedic surgery that Mr Bidwell specialises in are constantly changing due to new research and techniques, this ultimately brings improvements in treatments. Mr Bidwell engages with these new developments to bring the best in evidence based and proven therapies to patients, along with careful introduction of newer treatment options.

An example of this is the restor3d Knee, a fully customised knee replacement that Mr Bidwell has offered since 2018. By being the first to offer this technology in Scotland, Mr Bidwell is the most experienced surgeon in this area and is able to offer a UK training centre for orthopaedics surgeons looking to learn the techniques.
